Bruce Woods Inducts Aaron YakovetzMERRILLVILLE, IN, July 25, 2008 - Merrillville Noon Kiwanis will host its annual Round Up on Aug. 28. Club members bring family, friends or co-workers to this special meeting.

"This event serves a dual purpose," said club President Barb Koby. "Obviously, it's one method for increasing our membership. But more importantly, it's a way to expose the message of our club and Kiwanis International to the community."

Added Secretary/Treasurer Bruce Woods, "Guests are always welcome, but the Round Up event provides a focus for soliciting membership and increasing awareness of our community programs."

The Round Up occurs at an ideal time, just prior to the group's biggest fundraising event. Kiwanis's fall peanut sales have become a staple in the region. Members from area clubs can be seen outside various retailers throughout Lake and Porter counties handing out packets of peanuts for donations. "Every dollar that we can generate will go to support programs such as the Merrillville High School Kiwanis Scholarship and Merrillville Kiwanis Dictionary Project," said Woods.

Anyone interested in more information about the peanut sales or in preordering cases of peanuts can call Koby at (219)613-0727. An order form is available online at www.goiim.com/peanut_order.htm. Cases are $35 each or three for $100. Additional discount pricing is available for bulk orders.

The group continued a recent surge in growth last month by adding another new member, Aaron Yakovetz, of Ideas in Motion. "I'm excited to be a part of Kiwanis," said Yakovetz. "Their support of our community, and especially of children within the community, is a noble cause which I am proud to support."

Addressing the recent growth of the club, Koby said, "Our message of 'changing the world one child and one community at a time' is spreading, and people want to be a part of that. Also, our local business people are realizing that Kiwanis offers unique networking opportunities that are not only good for our members and their businesses, but help the community as a whole."

The Merrillville Noon Kiwanis meets from noon to 1 p.m. every Thursday at the Old Country Buffet, 1634 E 80th Ave. Anyone interested in making a difference in the community or learning more about Kiwanis is invited to attend. Woods will give a report on the International Kiwanis Convention next Thursday.

The Kiwanis Club of Merrillville is involved with projects geared towards advancing the prospects of the community's children. In addition to several local organizations, Kiwanis supports charities such as the Riley Ronald McDonald House and Children's Hospital.
